Fee Amount: See Merchants Statement and Processing Amount
Details
Previously called Network Participation Fee (NPF). The FANF was previously communicated by Visa as the Network Participation Fee. Amount Varies Based on Multiple Factors. Merchant Category Code (MCC). The merchant category code used to classify a business plays a role in the amount of the FANF charged each month. However, the impact of the MCC is very minimal, amounting to a difference of $0.90 - $1.10 for most businesses (less than fifty locations).
Acceptance Method
The main factor in determining the amount of the FANF is whether a business processes the majority of its transactions in a card present or card not present environment. Card Present Businesses (Excluding Fast Food Restaurants / MCC 5814). The amount of the Fixed Acquirer Network Fee for card present businesses will be based number of locations. Businesses with one location will be charged $2 - $2.90 a month, up to $85 a month for businesses with 4,000 or more locations. Card-Not-Present Businesses (As well as Fast Food Restaurants / MCC 5814). For card-not-present businesses, the amount of the FANF will be based on gross Visa processing volume. Card-not-present businesses will see a greater impact from the FANF than card-present businesses due to the fee being determined by volume. For example, card-not-present business processing between $8,000 and $39,999 will be hit with a Fixed Acquirer Network Fee of $15 a month opposed to just $2 for a card present business with similar volume and one location. Waived for Eligible Charitable / Social Service Organizations (MCC 8398). Visa will waive the FANF for charitable organizations classified under merchant category code 8398. Exactly how the fee will be waived isn’t quite clear at the moment, but early indications are that Visa will charge the FANF and then provide a rebate at a later date. Visa Income, Separate from Interchange. The Fixed Acquirer Network Fee is separate from interchange and is more like assessments in that the income generated from the FANF goes to Visa.

Maestro cards are obtained from associate banks and can be linked to the card holder's current account, or they can be prepaid cards.
The cardholder presents the card at the point of sale (POS) and this is swiped through the terminal by the assistant or the customer or inserted into a chip and PIN device. The payment is authorised by the card issuer to ensure that the cardholder has sufficient funds in their account to make the purchase and the cardholder confirms the payment by either signing the sales receipt or entering their 4 to 6-digit PIN.
Within the EU and certain other countries, Maestro is MasterCard's main debit brand and is the equivalent of signature debit card which does not require electronic authorisation, similar to the Visa Debit card. In most other countries, Maestro is equivalent to a Visa Electron and is MasterCard's tertiary card. It requires electronic authorisation much like a Solo debit card, i.e. not only must the information stored in either the chip or the magnetic stripe be read, this has to be sent from the merchant to the issuing bank, the issuing bank then has to respond with an affirmative authorisation. If the information is not read, the issuer will decline the transaction, regardless of any disposable amount on the connected account. This is different from other debit and credit cards, where the information can be entered manually into the terminal (i.e. by punching the 13 to 19 digits and the expiry date on the terminal) and still be approved by the issuer or stand-in processor.

2. All MasterCard transactions made through Apple Pay are ready to use industry-standard EMV-level security, and are protected using standards-based payment tokens. Tokens are card numbers that mobile devices use in place of the card number printed on the plastic. MDES validates the transaction, maps from the token back to the PAN and forwards it to the issuer for authorization.
3. What kind of transactions does MDES support? MDES supports contactless payments and Digital Secure Remote Payments (DSRP). DSRP is a transaction method where a consumer is able to make in-app purchases using a token. Contactless payments leverage NFC technology for point-of-sale transactions, while DSRP delivers EMV-like transaction for in-app payments.

POS Wats

Fee Amount: $0.10 on top of the POS Auth
Details
A pos wats or pos wat fee is a communication fee that is charged each time a business's credit card equipment dials the processor's toll-free 800 number to get or give information.
The acronym POS stands for point of sale, and the acronym WATS stands for wide-area telephone service. When taken together POS-WATS stands for point of sale wide-area telephone service (fee).
The pos-wats fee is a credit card transaction fee that is often charged in addition to other transaction fees such as authorization fees, return fees, and AVS fees. This is what gives the pos-wats fee the potential to make quite an impact on a business's credit card processing fees.
Since the pos wats fee is charged each time the business's credit card machine calls the processor's toll-free 800 number, it will be assessed along with any additional transaction fees. In this case, the processor will charge $0.10 per transaction as an authorization fee and another $0.10 per transaction for the pos wats fee for a total of $0.20.
While several processors refer to the communication fee as a wats fee, the exact abbreviation POS-WATS is used by First Data. Being the largest processor in the United States, First Data provides processing services for a number of different companies.
