Back in 2014 Home Depot had the largest data breach associated with a retail store ever reported. The malware was downloaded by a cybercriminal(s) to allow access to obtaining over 50 million credit card numbers from the Home Depot customer database. This also included over 53 million email addresses from their customers.
Today, Visa, MasterCard, and Discover have guidelines available to help businesses know what to do in case they have a data breach. The Federal Trade Commission also has some good advice to adhere to if there is a data breach within your company. We encourage you to be aware of each of their guidelines to help protect you and your customers.
We also encourage your business to become PCI Compliant. To help in this effort, Complete Merchant Solutions have partnered with Security Metrics, an industry-leading company to specializes in assisting merchants in following the PCI guidelines.
