How to Create Each Payment Option in Nexio Super
Audience: Customer Support Representatives
Overview
This article covers ACH and Credit Card payment option setup specifically for merchants using NMI as their gateway. NMI handles ACH differently than most other gateways — it requires a separate ACH processor to be configured, which means a separate gateway entry in Nexio Super. If a merchant is using a different gateway type, ACH can typically be added as a payment option without any additional gateway configuration.
Key Concepts
- NMI Processor: A payment processor configured inside NMI. Each processor handles a specific payment type (credit card or ACH). Every processor has a unique Processor ID, found at the bottom of its details page in NMI.
- Gateway (Nexio Super): In Nexio Super, each NMI processor is represented as a separate gateway on the MID. Even if both ACH and CC share the same NMI secret key, they must be set up as separate gateways because they each have different Processor IDs. Note: This separate gateway requirement is specific to NMI — most other gateway types do not require a separate gateway to support ACH.
- Processor ID: A unique identifier for a specific NMI processor. Always found at the bottom of the processor details page in NMI, labeled "Processor ID". This is required when adding a gateway in Nexio Super.
- eCheck: The payment option type in Nexio Super used for ACH (bank transfer) payments.
NMI-Specific Rule: One NMI processor = one gateway in Nexio Super. ACH and CC always require separate gateways for NMI, even on the same MID. This is unique to NMI — other gateway types generally do not require this.

How to Set Up an ACH (eCheck) Payment Option
What you will need
- Access to the NMI dashboard for the merchant
- The ACH processor already configured in NMI
- Access to the MID in Nexio Super
Steps
Step | Action |
1 | In NMI, navigate to the ACH processor and open its details page. (Edit Button) |
2 | Scroll to the bottom of the processor details page and copy the Processor ID (labeled "Processor ID"). |
3 | In Nexio Super, open the relevant MID and navigate to the Gateways section. |
4 | Add a new gateway and select NMI as the gateway type. |
5 | Enter the NMI secret key. Note: You can reuse the same secret key from the existing CC NMI gateway — no new key is needed. |
6 | Paste the ACH Processor ID (copied in Step 2) into the Processor ID field. |
7 | Save the new gateway. |
8 | Navigate to Payment Options for the MID and create a new payment option. |
9 | Set the payment type to eCheck. |
10 | From the gateway dropdown, select the NMI gateway you just created (the one with the ACH Processor ID). |
11 | Save the payment option. |
Note: You do not need a new or separate NMI secret key for the ACH gateway. The same secret key used for the existing CC NMI gateway can be reused. The Processor ID is what differentiates the two gateways.
Important: When creating the eCheck payment option, make sure you select the NMI gateway that uses the ACH Processor ID — not the CC gateway. Selecting the wrong gateway will cause transactions to fail or route incorrectly.
How to Set Up a Credit Card Payment Option
What you will need
- Access to the NMI dashboard for the merchant
- The Credit Card processor already configured in NMI
- Access to the MID in Nexio Super
Steps
Step | Action |
1 | In NMI, navigate to the Credit Card processor and open its details page.
5 | Enter the NMI secret key and paste the CC Processor ID into the Processor ID field. |
6 | Save the new gateway. |
7 | Navigate to Payment Options for the MID and create a new payment option. |
8 | Set the payment type to Credit Card. |
9 | From the gateway dropdown, select the NMI gateway configured with the CC Processor ID. |
10 | Save the payment option. |
Note: The Credit Card setup follows the same gateway creation flow as ACH. The only differences are the Processor ID used and the payment option type selected (Credit Card instead of eCheck).
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Selecting the wrong gateway when creating a payment option — always match the gateway to the correct payment type (ACH gateway for eCheck, CC gateway for Credit Card).
- Forgetting to add a separate gateway for ACH — the existing CC NMI gateway cannot be used for eCheck payment options.
- Entering the wrong Processor ID — always scroll to the very bottom of the processor details page in NMI where it is explicitly labeled "Processor ID".
- Thinking a new NMI secret key is required for ACH — it is not. The same secret key works for both gateways.
Summary
To add an ACH payment option: find the ACH processor's Processor ID in NMI, add it as a new NMI gateway on the MID in Nexio Super (reusing the existing secret key), then create an eCheck payment option pointing to that gateway. The Credit Card flow is identical — just use the CC processor's Processor ID and select Credit Card as the payment type. Both gateways share the same NMI secret key; the Processor ID is the only thing that differentiates them.
