Below are 1 of the most common Decline codes, their description and a possible solution for each.  These decline codes are provided to Complete Merchant Solutions by the issuing banks.

Insufficient Funds
Transaction declined due to not having enough funds in the bank account to support the transaction

Invalid Credit Card Number
Credit card number contains characters, other digits, or bank does not recognize this number as a valid credit card number
Re-enter the credit card information and try the card again. If the decline persists ask for another form of payment
Expired Card
Expiration date blank or the date is being posted in the past
Re-enter the credit card information and try the card again. If the decline persists ask for another form of payment
Contact Card Issuer
This can either mean the card has been reported as stolen, lost or fraudulent transactions have occurred on the card
The customer will need to call their bank to resolve the issue. When calling the bank have the customer request the bank to look at this specific transaction. Collect another form of payment from the customer.
Transaction Requires Voice Authentication. Please call in.
Authorizer needs more information for approval.
The customers bank is requesting additional information for the purchase. Call the following number with customer to have authorization approved. Visa or MasterCard 1-800-647-3722, Discover 1-800-347-1111. If customer is not available for call collect another form of payment
Invalid credit card CVV number format
CVV Number contains character other than digits or contains more than 6 characters
Re-enter the credit card information and try the card again. If the decline persists ask for another form of payment
Duplicate Payment Found
The system located a transaction that seems to be a duplicate of the current attempt.
Confirm if there is another traction on this card for the same amount within the previous 24 hours. If there is not try to run the card again. If error persists ask for another form of payment


Invalid Transaction Amount
Amount was less than or equal to 0
Re-enter the credit card information and try the card again. If the decline persists ask for another form of payment
Invalid Service CodeThe issuer of the card will not allow for online transactions.  Typically found with prepaid cardsCollect another form of payment
Amount Higher Than Maximum
The payment amount was higher than the maximum accepted
Re-run the card in staggered increments from the total dollar amount. For an example if the transaction is $100 run a transaction for $40.00, $20.00 and $50.00.
Hold Card / Temporary Hold Card
The issuing bank has put a temporary hold on the card, this can also come through as a do not honor
Collect another form of payment
Pick up Card
This card has been reported as stolen, lost of fraudulent transaction have occurred on the card
Collect another form of payment or have customer call their issuing bank and ask for them to look at the specific transaction that was declined.
